HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to congratulate Bloomington Police
4 Sergeant Larry E. Shepherd on his retirement; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Bloomington Police Sergeant Larry E. Shepherd
6 began his career as a Bloomington Police officer on September
7 24, 1979; Sergeant Shepherd served in the patrol division
8 working all three shifts until January of 1991; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Larry Shepherd became a detective in the Criminal
10 Investigation Division in January of 1991 until February 2,
11 2002, when he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant; during his
12 service in the Criminal Investigation Division, Sergeant
13 Shepherd either assisted or was the case agent in some of
14 Bloomington's most serious and high profile criminal
15 investigations; and
 
16     WHEREAS, Sergeant Shepherd remained with the Criminal
17 Investigation Division until January 10, 2010, when he was
18 transferred to Second Shift Patrol Sergeant; and
 
19     WHEREAS, Sergeant Shepherd, during his career at the
20 Bloomington Police Department, received 29 letters of
21 commendation, 3 unit citations, and received the meritorious

1 service award for his distinguished service to the citizens of
2 Bloomington; Sergeant Shepherd was also named the Veterans of
3 Foreign Wars, Bloomington Police officer of the year in 1994;
4 and
 
5     WHEREAS, Sergeant Shepherd was very active in the
6 Bloomington PB and PA Unit #21, serving as Vice President for
7 one year and recording secretary for four years; he assisted
8 with, and participated in, many of the unit events; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Sergeant Larry E. Shepherd will officially retire
10 from the Bloomington Police Department on May 1, 2010 after 30
11 years of service; Sergeant Shepherd has proudly worn the
12 uniform of the Bloomington Police Department and has endeavored
13 to maintain a professional and positive image to the citizens
14 of Bloomington and all citizens he has served; therefore, be it
 
15     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
16 NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
17 congratulate Sergeant Shepherd on his retirement and wish him
18 the best in all his future endeavors; and be it further
 
19     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20 presented to Sergeant Larry E. Shepherd as a symbol of our
21 respect and esteem.
