HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to honor John R. Gehlbach of Elkhart for his many accomplishments; and

WHEREAS, John Gehlbach was born on October 9, 1920, in Beason; he is the son of the late Frank Gehlbach and Hester Keys-Gehlbach; he married Mildred Poole on February 14, 1956, in Davenport, Iowa; and

WHEREAS, After graduating from Beason High School in 1938, John Gehlbach attended the University of Illinois in Champaign for 2 years; he then earned his bachelor's degree in history from Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota in 1942; and

WHEREAS, After graduating from Carleton College, John Gehlbach joined the United States Navy; during his tenure with the Navy, he attended the Harvard Business School for 8 months; he was discharged from the Navy as a Lieutenant Commander in 1946; and

WHEREAS, After John Gehlbach earned his bachelor of laws degree from Northwestern University in Chicago, he was employed for a year as an assistant to the General Counsel of Swift & Company; he then returned to Lincoln and entered private practice with his uncle, Charles Gehlbach, in 1950; and

WHEREAS, John Gehlbach served as a Special Assistant Attorney General with the State of Illinois for 20 years; and

WHEREAS, John Gehlbach has served with honor and distinction as a member of the Lincoln College Board of Trustees for over 56 years; he also served as the President of the Board for 3 years; and

WHEREAS, John Gehlbach has been a member of numerous civic organizations; he is a past president of the Kiwanis Club in Lincoln; he served on the Board of the Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital for several years and assisted in the drive for the construction of a new hospital; he served on the Committee to Restore the Historic Postville Courthouse in Lincoln; he is a former member and chairman of the Illinois State Historical Library; he has been a trustee of the Lincoln Academy of Illinois; he is also a member of the Illinois Executive Mansion Association, the Springfield Art Association, the Illinois Historical Society, the Lincoln Elks Lodge, the Loyal Order of Moose, the American Legion, the Sangamo Club, the Creve Coeur Club, and the State Bank of Lincoln Board of Directors; he is also a member and past president of the Logan County Bar Association and a member of the Illinois Bar Association, the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association, and the American Bar Association; and

WHEREAS, John Gehlbach was the recipient of the Lincoln Courier Man of the Month award; and

WHEREAS, John Gehlbach serves as a model of hard work, integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we honor John R. Gehlbach for his many accomplishments and wish him continued success and happiness in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to John Gehlbach as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
