HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to honor John R. Gehlbach of
4 Elkhart for his many accomplishments; and
 
5     WHEREAS, John Gehlbach was born on October 9, 1920, in
6 Beason; he is the son of the late Frank Gehlbach and Hester
7 Keys-Gehlbach; he married Mildred Poole on February 14, 1956,
8 in Davenport, Iowa; and
 
9     WHEREAS, After graduating from Beason High School in 1938,
10 John Gehlbach attended the University of Illinois in Champaign
11 for 2 years; he then earned his bachelor's degree in history
12 from Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota in 1942; and
 
13     WHEREAS, After graduating from Carleton College, John
14 Gehlbach joined the United States Navy; during his tenure with
15 the Navy, he attended the Harvard Business School for 8 months;
16 he was discharged from the Navy as a Lieutenant Commander in
17 1946; and
 
18     WHEREAS, After John Gehlbach earned his bachelor of laws
19 degree from Northwestern University in Chicago, he was employed
20 for a year as an assistant to the General Counsel of Swift &
21 Company; he then returned to Lincoln and entered private

1 practice with his uncle, Charles Gehlbach, in 1950; and
 
2     WHEREAS, John Gehlbach served as a Special Assistant
3 Attorney General with the State of Illinois for 20 years; and
 
4     WHEREAS, John Gehlbach has served with honor and
5 distinction as a member of the Lincoln College Board of
6 Trustees for over 56 years; he also served as the President of
7 the Board for 3 years; and
 
8     WHEREAS, John Gehlbach has been a member of numerous civic
9 organizations; he is a past president of the Kiwanis Club in
10 Lincoln; he served on the Board of the Abraham Lincoln Memorial
11 Hospital for several years and assisted in the drive for the
12 construction of a new hospital; he served on the Committee to
13 Restore the Historic Postville Courthouse in Lincoln; he is a
14 former member and chairman of the Illinois State Historical
15 Library; he has been a trustee of the Lincoln Academy of
16 Illinois; he is also a member of the Illinois Executive Mansion
17 Association, the Springfield Art Association, the Illinois
18 Historical Society, the Lincoln Elks Lodge, the Loyal Order of
19 Moose, the American Legion, the Sangamo Club, the Creve Coeur
20 Club, and the State Bank of Lincoln Board of Directors; he is
21 also a member and past president of the Logan County Bar
22 Association and a member of the Illinois Bar Association, the
23 Illinois Trial Lawyers Association, and the American Bar

1 Association; and
 
2     WHEREAS, John Gehlbach was the recipient of the Lincoln
3 Courier Man of the Month award; and
 
4     WHEREAS, John Gehlbach serves as a model of hard work,
5 integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of
6 Illinois; therefore, be it
 
7     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
8 NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
9 honor John R. Gehlbach for his many accomplishments and wish
10 him continued success and happiness in the future; and be it
11 further
 
12     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13 presented to John Gehlbach as a symbol of our esteem and
14 respect.
