HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The Robinson High School Maroons boys varsity basketball team won the 2009-2010 Illinois High School Association Class 2A State Basketball Championship; and

WHEREAS, The team ended the season on a 15-game win streak to finish at 27-5, and attained a 13-1 record in the Apollo Conference; and

WHEREAS, The team reached the championship game by virtue of defeats over Newton, Flora, Tolono (Unity), Teutopolis, Decatur St. Teresa, and Chicago Hales Franciscan in post-season play; and

WHEREAS, Robinson defeated perennial Illinois high school basketball powerhouse Peoria Manual 76-68 in overtime in the championship game; and

WHEREAS, The Maroons shot an outstanding 82 percent from the free-throw line throughout post-season play, this included a clutch 18 for 20 performance from senior point guard Derek Hannahs in the title game; and

WHEREAS, The Robinson High School coaches and administrators also stress the importance of academic excellence; collectively, the boys varsity basketball team carries an exceptional Grade Point Average of 3.316, and all seven senior members of the team will be attending colleges or universities following graduation; and

WHEREAS, The student-athletes from the first boys basketball State championship winning team are Derek Hannahs, Zach Shipman, Austin Siler, Jimmy Stevens, Devan Dirks, Aaron Siler, Cody Chamblin, Ben Jones, Alex Bruner, Meyers Leonard, Warren Whithaus, Zach Danks, Andrew Schroeder, Eli Wright, and Ryan McCray; and

WHEREAS, The IHSA Class 2A Boys Basketball State Champions from Robinson were led by Head Coach Bob Coffman and Assistant Coaches Les Wilson, Dave Holubek, and Dick Muston; the team was additionally assisted by Athletic Trainer Scott Rawlings and Manager Jasmyne Thomas; and

WHEREAS, The team enjoyed the season-long support of their enthusiastic student section and fan base from Robinson and the surrounding Crawford County area; they also boasted one of the largest crowds at the State tournament at Carver Arena in Peoria; and

WHEREAS, Superintendent Josh Quick, Principal Troy Hickey, Assistant Principal Janis Loughery, and Athletic Director Terry Roche provided the administrative support necessary to make the 2009-2010 season for the Maroons possible; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate and applaud the 2009-2010 Robinson High School Maroons boys varsity basketball team for their accomplishments throughout the season; for their talent and class displayed on and off the court, and for the excellent coaching staff that led the team to the 2A State Championship; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to Robinson High School Athletic Director Terry Roche, Head Coach Bob Coffman, Principal Troy Hickey, and the entire Robinson High School boys basketball team and coaching staff.
