SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death in Iraq of Sergeant Pedro J. Colon of Cicero, on February 19, 2007; and

WHEREAS, Pedro Colon spent his high school days in Cicero, living off the streets and at times as a homeless teenager; through his determination to not be just another statistic, Pedro Colon graduated from Morton East High School in May of 2001 and joined the United States Army in August of the same year; and

WHEREAS, Sergeant Pedro Colon was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division; he worked as a power generation equipment repairer; he had been on this tour in Iraq since November of 2006; during his time of duty he had received six service medals; and

WHEREAS, Pedro Colon overcame many obstacles in his young life through a positive attitude and a willingness to succeed; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and many friends from Morton East High School, the passing of Sergeant Pedro J. Colon; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we honor the memory of Sergeant Pedro J. Colon and his willingness to serve his country, which led to him making the ultimate sacrifice.
