SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death in Iraq of Sergeant Pedro J. Colon of
4 Cicero, on February 19, 2007; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Pedro Colon spent his high school days in Cicero,
6 living off the streets and at times as a homeless teenager;
7 through his determination to not be just another statistic,
8 Pedro Colon graduated from Morton East High School in May of
9 2001 and joined the United States Army in August of the same
10 year; and
 
11     WHEREAS, Sergeant Pedro Colon was assigned to the 2nd
12 Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st
13 Cavalry Division; he worked as a power generation equipment
14 repairer; he had been on this tour in Iraq since November of
15 2006; during his time of duty he had received six service
16 medals; and
 
17     WHEREAS, Pedro Colon overcame many obstacles in his young
18 life through a positive attitude and a willingness to succeed;
19 therefore, be it
 
20     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL
21 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with

1 his family and many friends from Morton East High School, the
2 passing of Sergeant Pedro J. Colon; and be it further
 
3     RESOLVED, That we honor the memory of Sergeant Pedro J.
4 Colon and his willingness to serve his country, which led to
5 him making the ultimate sacrifice.
