SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Daniel J. Buckley of Aurora, who passed away on March 19, 2008; and

WHEREAS, Daniel J. Buckley was born on February 6, 1927 in Aurora; his parents were James and Christine (Schwartz) Buckley; and

WHEREAS, Daniel J. Buckley was born and raised in Aurora; he was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church; and

WHEREAS, Daniel J. Buckley graduated from St. Joseph Grade School in 1941, Marmion Military Academy in 1944, and the University of Notre Dame in 1949, where he became a lifelong Notre Dame fan; and

WHEREAS, Daniel J. Buckley held the rank of Platoon Sergeant as a distinguished member of the United States Army, serving in Germany from 1950 through 1952; and

WHEREAS, Daniel J. Buckley was the owner/operator of Buckley's Grocery on Aurora Avenue, a neighborhood landmark of the Pigeon Hill community, for over 60 years; and

WHEREAS, Daniel J. Buckley was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Wild Rose Club, the Phoenix Club, and the Turner Club; and

WHEREAS, Daniel J. Buckley was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy (Eckle) Buckley; and his parents; and

WHEREAS, Daniel J. Buckley is survived by his wife, Kathleen J. (Ragan) Buckley; his children, Kathleen Buckley, James Buckley, Sandra (Bruce) Steinke, and Susan (Richard) Parrino; his stepchildren, Wayne (Sharon) Schopp, Michael (Judy) Schopp, Randy (Jay) Schopp, Rick (Inday) Schopp, and Vicki (Tom) Groom; his seven grandchildren and eleven step-grandchildren; his six step great-grandchildren; and his sister, Marilyn (Elwyn "John") Johnson; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Daniel J. Buckley; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Daniel J. Buckley as an expression of our sympathy.
