SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Daniel J. Buckley of Aurora, who passed
4 away on March 19, 2008; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Daniel J. Buckley was born on February 6, 1927 in
6 Aurora; his parents were James and Christine (Schwartz)
7 Buckley; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Daniel J. Buckley was born and raised in Aurora;
9 he was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church; and
 
10     WHEREAS, Daniel J. Buckley graduated from St. Joseph Grade
11 School in 1941, Marmion Military Academy in 1944, and the
12 University of Notre Dame in 1949, where he became a lifelong
13 Notre Dame fan; and
 
14     WHEREAS, Daniel J. Buckley held the rank of Platoon
15 Sergeant as a distinguished member of the United States Army,
16 serving in Germany from 1950 through 1952; and
 
17     WHEREAS, Daniel J. Buckley was the owner/operator of
18 Buckley's Grocery on Aurora Avenue, a neighborhood landmark of
19 the Pigeon Hill community, for over 60 years; and

1     WHEREAS, Daniel J. Buckley was a member of the Knights of
2 Columbus, the Wild Rose Club, the Phoenix Club, and the Turner
3 Club; and
 
4     WHEREAS, Daniel J. Buckley was preceded in death by his
5 first wife, Dorothy (Eckle) Buckley; and his parents; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Daniel J. Buckley is survived by his wife,
7 Kathleen J. (Ragan) Buckley; his children, Kathleen Buckley,
8 James Buckley, Sandra (Bruce) Steinke, and Susan (Richard)
9 Parrino; his stepchildren, Wayne (Sharon) Schopp, Michael
10 (Judy) Schopp, Randy (Jay) Schopp, Rick (Inday) Schopp, and
11 Vicki (Tom) Groom; his seven grandchildren and eleven
12 step-grandchildren; his six step great-grandchildren; and his
13 sister, Marilyn (Elwyn "John") Johnson; therefore, be it
 
14     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL
15 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
16 his family and friends, the passing of Daniel J. Buckley; and
17 be it further
 
18     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19 presented to the family of Daniel J. Buckley as an expression
20 of our sympathy.
