HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Dr. Alice Marie Jacobs on the occasion of being the recipient of the 2007 ACCT Chief Executive Award for the Central Region of the United States from the Association of Community College Trustees; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Alice Marie Jacobs was named President of Danville Area Community College in 1999; as President, she was charged with increasing enrollment, particularly among minorities; her plans of action included the implementation of initiatives designed to encourage diversity in faculty, staff, and students, as well as the promotion and support of the expansion of health programs at the college; she developed an innovative partnership between DACC and Lakeview College of Nursing and supported the transfer of a much-needed Radiologic Technology program from Provena United Samaritans Medical Center to the college in order to preserve health education opportunities within the community; she also improved relations between DACC and local school districts, which allowed the college to provide dual credit career education courses and expanded dual credit transfer courses to area high school juniors and seniors; and

WHEREAS, Prior to her tenure as President of Danville Area Community College, Dr. Alice Marie Jacobs served as President of Kaskaskia College in Centralia, Vice President of Instruction and Student Development at Cape Fear Community College in Wilmington, North Carolina, Dean of Instruction at Rochester Community College in Rochester, Minnesota, and as Dean of Occupational Education at Kellogg Community College in Battle Creek, Michigan; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Alice Marie Jacobs was elected to the Board of Directors of the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) in 2006; she has served on the AACC Commission on Minority Resources and chairs the AACC Commission on Diversity, Inclusion and Equity; she is also a current member of the Illinois Community College System Foundation Board of Directors and has served as the President, Vice President, and Secretary/Treasurer of the Illinois Community College Presidents Council; she has also served as chairperson of the Presidents Council Student Development Committee, chairperson of the Governance Committee, and as chairperson of the Presidents Council Administrative Services Committee; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Alice Marie Jacobs received her Ph.D. in College and University Administration from Michigan State University; she also holds a M.A. from Western Michigan University, a B.S. from Western Michigan University, and an A.A. from Louisburg College in North Carolina; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Alice Marie Jacobs's exemplary professionalism and dedication to her profession make her a model for the citizens of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Dr. Alice Marie Jacobs on the occasion of being the recipient of the 2007 ACCT Chief Executive Award and wish her continued success and happiness in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. Alice Marie Jacobs as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
