HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to congratulate Dr. Alice Marie
4 Jacobs on the occasion of being the recipient of the 2007 ACCT
5 Chief Executive Award for the Central Region of the United
6 States from the Association of Community College Trustees; and
 
7     WHEREAS, Dr. Alice Marie Jacobs was named President of
8 Danville Area Community College in 1999; as President, she was
9 charged with increasing enrollment, particularly among
10 minorities; her plans of action included the implementation of
11 initiatives designed to encourage diversity in faculty, staff,
12 and students, as well as the promotion and support of the
13 expansion of health programs at the college; she developed an
14 innovative partnership between DACC and Lakeview College of
15 Nursing and supported the transfer of a much-needed Radiologic
16 Technology program from Provena United Samaritans Medical
17 Center to the college in order to preserve health education
18 opportunities within the community; she also improved
19 relations between DACC and local school districts, which
20 allowed the college to provide dual credit career education
21 courses and expanded dual credit transfer courses to area high
22 school juniors and seniors; and
 
23     WHEREAS, Prior to her tenure as President of Danville Area

1 Community College, Dr. Alice Marie Jacobs served as President
2 of Kaskaskia College in Centralia, Vice President of
3 Instruction and Student Development at Cape Fear Community
4 College in Wilmington, North Carolina, Dean of Instruction at
5 Rochester Community College in Rochester, Minnesota, and as
6 Dean of Occupational Education at Kellogg Community College in
7 Battle Creek, Michigan; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Dr. Alice Marie Jacobs was elected to the Board of
9 Directors of the American Association of Community Colleges
10 (AACC) in 2006; she has served on the AACC Commission on
11 Minority Resources and chairs the AACC Commission on Diversity,
12 Inclusion and Equity; she is also a current member of the
13 Illinois Community College System Foundation Board of
14 Directors and has served as the President, Vice President, and
15 Secretary/Treasurer of the Illinois Community College
16 Presidents Council; she has also served as chairperson of the
17 Presidents Council Student Development Committee, chairperson
18 of the Governance Committee, and as chairperson of the
19 Presidents Council Administrative Services Committee; and
 
20     WHEREAS, Dr. Alice Marie Jacobs received her Ph.D. in
21 College and University Administration from Michigan State
22 University; she also holds a M.A. from Western Michigan
23 University, a B.S. from Western Michigan University, and an
24 A.A. from Louisburg College in North Carolina; and

1     WHEREAS, Dr. Alice Marie Jacobs's exemplary
2 professionalism and dedication to her profession make her a
3 model for the citizens of the State of Illinois; therefore, be
4 it
 
5     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
6 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
7 congratulate Dr. Alice Marie Jacobs on the occasion of being
8 the recipient of the 2007 ACCT Chief Executive Award and wish
9 her continued success and happiness in the future; and be it
10 further
 
11     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12 presented to Dr. Alice Marie Jacobs as a symbol of our esteem
13 and respect.
