HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem officially opened January 27, 1902 and began its long-standing tradition of foresight and excellence; and

WHEREAS, The Shaare Zedek Medical Center derives much of its support from the generosity of hundreds of Illinois citizens and thousands of other Americans and people from around the world; and

WHEREAS, Shaare Zedek is known as "the Hospital with a Heart" for its century-long reputation for treating patients rather than just their illnesses; for an extra dimension of caring, particularly with regard to its nurses; and for its adherence to traditional Jewish precepts and values; and

WHEREAS, This endearing term has been adopted by many of the thousands of patients who enter through the "Gates of Righteousness" (the English translation of the biblical phrase Shaare Zedek); Shaare Zedek and its affiliation with Ben-Gurion University of the Negev's Faculty of Health Sciences provides patients with the highest level of medical expertise; and

WHEREAS, Kathy Posner of Chicago has been indefatigable in her efforts on behalf of the Midwest Region of the American Committee of Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem, giving of her time, of her talent, and of her treasure; and

WHEREAS, The Midwest Region of the American Committee of Shaare Zedek Medical Center has chosen to call these great efforts to the attention of her fellow citizens, her family, and her friends at a civic luncheon, fittingly on Valentine's Day at the Hilton Chicago; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we wish to congratulate Kathy R. Posner on her many accomplishments and for her current recognition as a recipient of the Shaare Zedek "Heart of Gold" Award; and be it further

RESOLVED, That Wednesday, February 14th, 2007 be designated as a day of tribute to Kathy Posner, not only for her efforts on behalf of this great humanitarian institution, but also in recognition of her labors and activities on behalf of a score of other institutions, agencies and civic committees; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Kathy Posner as a symbol of our respect.
