HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Sara Lee of Glen Ellyn, who passed away on May 26, 2008; and

WHEREAS, Sara Lee was a graduate of LaPorte High School in LaPorte, Indiana; she graduated from Purdue University in 1979; and

WHEREAS, Sara Lee devoted much of her time and effort to improving the Village of Glen Ellyn; she served on the committee that helped craft Glen Ellyn's comprehensive plan and sat on the nominating committee of the Civic Betterment Party, which arranges for Glen Ellyn residents to run for village office; in 2005, she was elected to a four-year term on the Glen Ellyn Village Board, where she gained a reputation as an assertive leader; she was also a member of the Glen Ellyn League of Women Voters; and

WHEREAS, Sara Lee was well known for her volunteer work at local schools; she was a member of the strategic plan committee for the Glenbard Township High School District 87, which named her Volunteer of the Year for her efforts; she also served on the education advisory board of the DuPage Regional Superintendent's office and the Citizens Advisory Council for Glenbard South High School; she also supported successful referendums in School Districts 87 and 89; and

WHEREAS, Sara Lee was named one of the Daily Herald's 100 Most Influential People of 2000 in DuPage County in recognition of her service to the community; and

WHEREAS, Sara Lee was an avid gardener and loved to cook; and

WHEREAS, Sara Lee is survived by her husband, Peter, and her children, Jennifer, Peter, and Jonathan; she was the daughter of Lucille and the late John Stassel and the sister of David and Donna Stassel; and

WHEREAS, Sara Lee will be remembered by all who knew and loved her as a passionate and dedicated mother, wife, and public servant whose love for her family and the residents of Glen Ellyn was unmatched; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with her friends and family, the passing of Sara Lee; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Sara Lee as an expression of our sympathy.
