HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Sara Lee
4 of Glen Ellyn, who passed away on May 26, 2008; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Sara Lee was a graduate of LaPorte High School in
6 LaPorte, Indiana; she graduated from Purdue University in 1979;
7 and
 
8     WHEREAS, Sara Lee devoted much of her time and effort to
9 improving the Village of Glen Ellyn; she served on the
10 committee that helped craft Glen Ellyn's comprehensive plan and
11 sat on the nominating committee of the Civic Betterment Party,
12 which arranges for Glen Ellyn residents to run for village
13 office; in 2005, she was elected to a four-year term on the
14 Glen Ellyn Village Board, where she gained a reputation as an
15 assertive leader; she was also a member of the Glen Ellyn
16 League of Women Voters; and
 
17     WHEREAS, Sara Lee was well known for her volunteer work at
18 local schools; she was a member of the strategic plan committee
19 for the Glenbard Township High School District 87, which named
20 her Volunteer of the Year for her efforts; she also served on
21 the education advisory board of the DuPage Regional
22 Superintendent's office and the Citizens Advisory Council for

1 Glenbard South High School; she also supported successful
2 referendums in School Districts 87 and 89; and
 
3     WHEREAS, Sara Lee was named one of the Daily Herald's 100
4 Most Influential People of 2000 in DuPage County in recognition
5 of her service to the community; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Sara Lee was an avid gardener and loved to cook;
7 and
 
8     WHEREAS, Sara Lee is survived by her husband, Peter, and
9 her children, Jennifer, Peter, and Jonathan; she was the
10 daughter of Lucille and the late John Stassel and the sister of
11 David and Donna Stassel; and
 
12     WHEREAS, Sara Lee will be remembered by all who knew and
13 loved her as a passionate and dedicated mother, wife, and
14 public servant whose love for her family and the residents of
15 Glen Ellyn was unmatched; therefore, be it
 
16     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
17 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
18 mourn, along with her friends and family, the passing of Sara
19 Lee; and be it further
 
20     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
