HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Bert J. Docter of South Holland, who passed away on January 23, 2008; and

WHEREAS, Bert J. Docter was the owner and C.E.O. of Docter Enterprises, where he was involved as a developer and general contractor; he was also the founder and owner of Docter Florist for 28 years; and

WHEREAS, Bert J. Docter was an active member of his community; he was a member of the South Holland Business Association for 27 years, serving as President of the Board of Directors at the time of his passing; he served as Director of the Chicago Southland Third Regional Airport Clearinghouse from 2000 to 2003; and

WHEREAS, Bert J. Docter was a senior member of the Board of Trustees for the Village of South Holland; he served as President pro tempore for the Village of South Holland in 1994 during the President's illness, and he also served on South Holland's Zoning Board for four years; as a Trustee, he served as Chairman of the Community Development Committee and served on the Public Safety and Public Works Committees; he served on the Board of Directors for Calvin Christian School; he was also a Past President and a 32 year member of the Lions Club and a Past President of the South Holland Kiwanis Club; and

WHEREAS, Bert J. Docter was preceded in death by his parents, John and Abbie Docter; and

WHEREAS, Bert J. Docter is survived by his wife, Sharyn (nee Jacobsma); his children, Bret (Erin), Brad (Anne-Marie), Blake (Laura) Docter, Amy (Dave) Gibson, and Bryan and Brandon (Elizabeth) Docter; his grandchildren, Joshua, Caleb, Josie, Morgan, Chase, Gwendellyn, and Samantha Docter, and Grant, Will, Adam, and Gise Gibson; his brothers and sisters, Henry (Gertude), Grace (Wilfred) Hoekwater, Arthur (Edie), Alvina (Albert) Bakker, Hildred (Henry) Hoekstra, Alvin (Joyce), and Hennie Docter; his brother-in-law, Robert (Kelly) Jacobsma; and his many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Bert J. Docter; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Bert J. Docter as an expression of our sympathy.
