HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Bert J.
4 Docter of South Holland, who passed away on January 23, 2008;
5 and
 
6     WHEREAS, Bert J. Docter was the owner and C.E.O. of Docter
7 Enterprises, where he was involved as a developer and general
8 contractor; he was also the founder and owner of Docter Florist
9 for 28 years; and
 
10     WHEREAS, Bert J. Docter was an active member of his
11 community; he was a member of the South Holland Business
12 Association for 27 years, serving as President of the Board of
13 Directors at the time of his passing; he served as Director of
14 the Chicago Southland Third Regional Airport Clearinghouse
15 from 2000 to 2003; and
 
16     WHEREAS, Bert J. Docter was a senior member of the Board of
17 Trustees for the Village of South Holland; he served as
18 President pro tempore for the Village of South Holland in 1994
19 during the President's illness, and he also served on South
20 Holland's Zoning Board for four years; as a Trustee, he served
21 as Chairman of the Community Development Committee and served
22 on the Public Safety and Public Works Committees; he served on

1 the Board of Directors for Calvin Christian School; he was also
2 a Past President and a 32 year member of the Lions Club and a
3 Past President of the South Holland Kiwanis Club; and
 
4     WHEREAS, Bert J. Docter was preceded in death by his
5 parents, John and Abbie Docter; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Bert J. Docter is survived by his wife, Sharyn
7 (nee Jacobsma); his children, Bret (Erin), Brad (Anne-Marie),
8 Blake (Laura) Docter, Amy (Dave) Gibson, and Bryan and Brandon
9 (Elizabeth) Docter; his grandchildren, Joshua, Caleb, Josie,
10 Morgan, Chase, Gwendellyn, and Samantha Docter, and Grant,
11 Will, Adam, and Gise Gibson; his brothers and sisters, Henry
12 (Gertude), Grace (Wilfred) Hoekwater, Arthur (Edie), Alvina
13 (Albert) Bakker, Hildred (Henry) Hoekstra, Alvin (Joyce), and
14 Hennie Docter; his brother-in-law, Robert (Kelly) Jacobsma;
15 and his many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
16     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
17 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
18 mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Bert
19 J. Docter; and be it further
 
20     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21 presented to the family of Bert J. Docter as an expression of
22 our sympathy.
