HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Harry W. Ashworth of Decatur and a longtime resident of Mt. Zion, who passed away on March 5, 2008; and

WHEREAS, He was born on March 7, 1930 in Blue Island, the son of Ross and Elsie (Hunter) Ashworth; he graduated from Western High School in 1949 and from Western Illinois University in 1959; and he married Delores Jean Anderson on June 14, 1953 in Peoria; and

WHEREAS, He worked as a Drug Representative for McKesson & Robbins Drug Wholesale from 1958 to 1970; was Manager for Rambo Town & Country Drug Store from 1970 to 1979; and was Regional Manager for Mason & Associates in Peoria Dale Carnegie Courses from 1984 to 1996; and

WHEREAS, He was a former member of the Decatur Chordsmen, S.P.E.B.S.Q.S.A.; Planning Commissioner for Mt. Zion from 1975 to 1978; a Village Trustee of Mt. Zion from 1978 to 1991; Mayor of Mt. Zion from 1991 to 1995; as mayor, his leadership resulted in numerous improvements in the quality of life of Mt. Zion residents; he was a Charter Member and served three terms as President of the Mt. Zion Business Association, which became the Chamber of Commerce; he was the leader in the formation of the Mt. Zion Economic Development Commission; he was a former member of the Lions Club, Moose Lodge, and Board Member for Crime Stoppers of Decatur and Macon County; and

WHEREAS, He was a Korean War Veteran, serving in the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1954, reaching the rank of Airman 1st Class; and

WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Bonnie L. Day; and his nephew, Craig Day; and

WHEREAS, He is survived by his wife, Delores; his children, Janet Boomer and husband Daniel C., Jeffrey Ashworth and wife Heidi, James Ashworth and wife Karen; his seven grandchildren, Kimberly Boomer, Kristine Boomer, Kathryn Boomer, Travis Joe Ashworth, Jenna Leah Ashworth, Jacob Ross Ashworth, and Jessica Lynn Ashworth; his great-grandson, Kevin Daniel Boomer; and his nephew, Larry Day; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Harry W. Ashworth; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Harry Ashworth as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
