HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Harry W.
4 Ashworth of Decatur and a longtime resident of Mt. Zion, who
5 passed away on March 5, 2008; and
 
6     WHEREAS, He was born on March 7, 1930 in Blue Island, the
7 son of Ross and Elsie (Hunter) Ashworth; he graduated from
8 Western High School in 1949 and from Western Illinois
9 University in 1959; and he married Delores Jean Anderson on
10 June 14, 1953 in Peoria; and
 
11     WHEREAS, He worked as a Drug Representative for McKesson &
12 Robbins Drug Wholesale from 1958 to 1970; was Manager for Rambo
13 Town & Country Drug Store from 1970 to 1979; and was Regional
14 Manager for Mason & Associates in Peoria Dale Carnegie Courses
15 from 1984 to 1996; and
 
16     WHEREAS, He was a former member of the Decatur Chordsmen,
17 S.P.E.B.S.Q.S.A.; Planning Commissioner for Mt. Zion from 1975
18 to 1978; a Village Trustee of Mt. Zion from 1978 to 1991; Mayor
19 of Mt. Zion from 1991 to 1995; as mayor, his leadership
20 resulted in numerous improvements in the quality of life of Mt.
21 Zion residents; he was a Charter Member and served three terms
22 as President of the Mt. Zion Business Association, which became

1 the Chamber of Commerce; he was the leader in the formation of
2 the Mt. Zion Economic Development Commission; he was a former
3 member of the Lions Club, Moose Lodge, and Board Member for
4 Crime Stoppers of Decatur and Macon County; and
 
5     WHEREAS, He was a Korean War Veteran, serving in the United
6 States Air Force from 1951 to 1954, reaching the rank of Airman
7 1st Class; and
 
8     WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents; his
9 sister, Bonnie L. Day; and his nephew, Craig Day; and
 
10     WHEREAS, He is survived by his wife, Delores; his children,
11 Janet Boomer and husband Daniel C., Jeffrey Ashworth and wife
12 Heidi, James Ashworth and wife Karen; his seven grandchildren,
13 Kimberly Boomer, Kristine Boomer, Kathryn Boomer, Travis Joe
14 Ashworth, Jenna Leah Ashworth, Jacob Ross Ashworth, and Jessica
15 Lynn Ashworth; his great-grandson, Kevin Daniel Boomer; and his
16 nephew, Larry Day; therefore, be it
 
17     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
18 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
19 mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Harry
20 W. Ashworth; and be it further
 
21     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
