SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois learned with great sadness of the death of Paul M. Haas of Belleville on Tuesday, April 25, 2006; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Haas was born on May 20, 1918 in St. Clair County; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Haas served St. Clair County for more than 40 years in various capacities, including deputy sheriff and assistant treasurer; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Haas was elected to multiple terms as county treasurer in St. Clair County and served until his retirement in 1994; and

WHEREAS, Along with his wife, Rita, Mr. Haas co-owned and managed the Town House Motel in downtown Belleville for 20 years; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Haas was a World War II U.S. Army Air Corps veteran; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Haas was a member of St. Augustine of Canterbury Parish and St. Peter's Cathedral Parish, where he served as an usher for more than 20 years; and

WHEREAS, He was also a charter member of the Knights of Columbus Belleville Council 1028, as well as the St. Clair County Democratic Party, the Illinois Treasurers Association, and the Catholic War Veterans Post 370; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Haas was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Catherine, two sisters, Irene Mueller and Florence Dahm, brothers-in-law, Albert Eros and Floyd Mueller, Oliver Birkner, John Huth, Charles Wilson, Eugene Hermann, and Clay Campbell, and sisters-in-law Marlene Haas and Catherine Huth; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Haas is survived by his wife of 64 years, Rita; his son, Richard (Bernie) Haas; 3 daughters, Sister Barbara Haas, Rita (Phil) Ochoa, and Lisa (David) Hoffman; his 4 grandchildren, Ben Cordia, Jen Cordia, Drew Cordia, and Eric Thimsen; 2 sisters, Viola Eros and Cathy (Robert) Becker; a brother Henry (Jane) Haas; 2 brothers-in-law, Oliver Dahm and Jerome (Delores) Huth; 2 sisters-in-law, Margaret Birkner and Patricia Campbell; an aunt, Eleanor Hermann; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Paul M. Haas, and we extend our deepest sympathy to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Mr. Haas's family as an expression of our sincere condolences.
