SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois
3 learned with great sadness of the death of Paul M. Haas of
4 Belleville on Tuesday, April 25, 2006; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Mr. Haas was born on May 20, 1918 in St. Clair
6 County; and
 
7     WHEREAS, Mr. Haas served St. Clair County for more than 40
8 years in various capacities, including deputy sheriff and
9 assistant treasurer; and
 
10     WHEREAS, Mr. Haas was elected to multiple terms as county
11 treasurer in St. Clair County and served until his retirement
12 in 1994; and
 
13     WHEREAS, Along with his wife, Rita, Mr. Haas co-owned and
14 managed the Town House Motel in downtown Belleville for 20
15 years; and
 
16     WHEREAS, Mr. Haas was a World War II U.S. Army Air Corps
17 veteran; and
 
18     WHEREAS, Mr. Haas was a member of St. Augustine of
19 Canterbury Parish and St. Peter's Cathedral Parish, where he
20 served as an usher for more than 20 years; and
 
21     WHEREAS, He was also a charter member of the Knights of
22 Columbus Belleville Council 1028, as well as the St. Clair
23 County Democratic Party, the Illinois Treasurers Association,
24 and the Catholic War Veterans Post 370; and
 
25     WHEREAS, Mr. Haas was preceded in death by his parents,
26 Henry and Catherine, two sisters, Irene Mueller and Florence
27 Dahm, brothers-in-law, Albert Eros and Floyd Mueller, Oliver

1 Birkner, John Huth, Charles Wilson, Eugene Hermann, and Clay
2 Campbell, and sisters-in-law Marlene Haas and Catherine Huth;
3 and
 
4     WHEREAS, Mr. Haas is survived by his wife of 64 years,
5 Rita; his son, Richard (Bernie) Haas; 3 daughters, Sister
6 Barbara Haas, Rita (Phil) Ochoa, and Lisa (David) Hoffman; his
7 4 grandchildren, Ben Cordia, Jen Cordia, Drew Cordia, and Eric
8 Thimsen; 2 sisters, Viola Eros and Cathy (Robert) Becker; a
9 brother Henry (Jane) Haas; 2 brothers-in-law, Oliver Dahm and
10 Jerome (Delores) Huth; 2 sisters-in-law, Margaret Birkner and
11 Patricia Campbell; an aunt, Eleanor Hermann; and many nieces,
12 nephews, and cousins; therefore, be it
 
13     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL
14 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
15 Paul M. Haas, and we extend our deepest sympathy to his family,
16 friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
 
17     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18 presented to Mr. Haas's family as an expression of our sincere
19 condolences.
