SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois learned with sadness of the death of Billy J. Brown of Anna on November 24, 2005; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Brown was born February 25, 1928, in Dongola, the son of Albert and Mae Johnson Brown; he married Corinne Durrett on June 28, 1947; and

WHEREAS, After graduating from Dongola High School, he worked as a salesman and bookkeeper at the former Karraker Chevrolet in Dongola until being called to serve his country during the Korean conflict; he served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps from 1951 to 1953; and

WHEREAS, He returned to the car dealership after his return from military service, where he was a partner until 1968, when he began work with the Illinois Department of Agriculture; he was also active in real estate, having developed Crestwood Estates subdivision at Lake of Egypt, a 12-year project, as well as other rental and development properties in the Marion area; from 1977 until his retirement, he was regional director of driver's services with the Illinois Secretary of State; and

WHEREAS, He was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Dongola, the Dongola Lodge 581 AF and AM, a 50-year member of the Scottish Rite Bodies, the Ainad Shrine Temple, a past worthy patron and 50-year member of Eastern Star, the Cairo Flying Club, and a member and past commander of both Miller-Manning American Legion Post and the Carroll P. Foster VFW Post 3455; he loved traveling, flying, boating, skiing, and photography; and

WHEREAS, The passing of Billy J. Brown is felt by all who knew and loved him, especially his wife, Corinne; and his nieces, nephews, and many friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Billy J. Brown and extend our sincerest condolences to his family, friends, and community; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to his family as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
