SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois
3 learned with regret of the death of George R. Knight of Pekin
4 on Sunday, July 31, 2005; and
 
5     WHEREAS, He was born on April 9, 1919, in Manchester,
6 Tennessee, to George Sr. and Lucille Searles Knight; he married
7 Lillian L. Berg on April 12, 1941, in Peoria; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Mr. Knight valiantly served his country as a
9 member of the U.S. Navy during World War II, when he served on
10 LST 654; he was a member of the American Legion in Peoria; and
 
11     WHEREAS, He was a police officer for the city of Peoria for
12 30 years, retiring in 1976; he later worked in security for
13 Commercial Bank in Peoria for 10 years, and he was a member of
14 the Peoria Police Retirees; and
 
15     WHEREAS, He was a member of Robert Baker Lodge, AF&AM;
16 Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Peoria; and a former member of
17 the Mohammed Temple Shrine Oriental Band; he was a member of
18 the Gates of Eden Church in Peoria; and
 
19     WHEREAS, The passing of George R. Knight has been deeply
20 felt by many, especially his wife, Lillian; his sons, George
21 (and Bobbi) and Curtis; his daughters, Cheryl Knight and Sandra
22 (and Rick) Coursey; his five grandchildren; and his eight
23 great-grandchildren; he was preceded in death by an infant
24 daughter, Janet Kay Knight; therefore, be it
 
25     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL
26 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
27 George R. Knight, and we extend our sincere condolences to his
28 family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
29 further

2 presented to his family as an expression of our deepest
3 sympathy.
