| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois |
3 |
| learned with regret of the death of George R. Knight of Pekin |
4 |
| on Sunday, July 31, 2005; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, He was born on April 9, 1919, in Manchester, |
6 |
| Tennessee, to George Sr.
and Lucille
Searles Knight;
he married |
7 |
| Lillian L. Berg on
April 12, 1941,
in Peoria; and
|
8 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Knight valiantly served his country as a |
9 |
| member of the U.S. Navy during World War II, when he served on |
10 |
| LST 654; he was a member of the American Legion in Peoria; and
|
11 |
| WHEREAS, He was a police officer for the city of Peoria for |
12 |
| 30 years, retiring in 1976; he later worked in security for |
13 |
| Commercial Bank in Peoria for 10 years, and he was a member of |
14 |
| the Peoria Police Retirees; and
|
15 |
| WHEREAS, He was a member of Robert Baker Lodge, AF&AM; |
16 |
| Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Peoria; and a former member of |
17 |
| the Mohammed Temple Shrine Oriental Band; he was a member of |
18 |
| the Gates of Eden Church in Peoria; and
|
19 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of George R. Knight has been deeply |
20 |
| felt by many, especially his wife, Lillian; his sons, George |
21 |
| (and Bobbi) and
Curtis; his daughters, Cheryl Knight and Sandra |
22 |
| (and Rick) Coursey; his five grandchildren; and his eight |
23 |
| great-grandchildren; he was preceded in death by an infant |
24 |
| daughter, Janet Kay Knight; therefore, be it
|

| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL |

| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
27 |
| George R. Knight, and we extend our sincere condolences to his |
28 |
| family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it |
29 |
| further
