SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois learned with sadness of the death of Paul B. "Rusty" Harris of Naperville on Tuesday, March 22, 2005; and

WHEREAS, He was born July 6, 1921, in Normal to Ben and Pauline (Palmer) Harris; he moved to Naperville in 1966; he was a graduate of Illinois State University in Normal and was a teacher at Normal Community High School; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Harris later worked as a textbook sales representative for Scholastic Publishing Co. and retired in 1989 after 40 years; he was an Eagle Scout and U.S. Navy veteran, serving during World War II on the USS Pamanset in the Pacific theater; and

WHEREAS, He was a very active member for 39 years with the Naperville Evening Kiwanis Club, was a volunteer for 12 years at Edward Hospital, delivered Meals on Wheels, and delivered videos to residents of nursing homes; he especially enjoyed doing presentations about World War II for grade-school children on Veterans Day; he also enjoyed participating in the School District 203 HURRAH program and reading at Prairie School to the primary-grade students; he served on the board of directors for the Old Sawmill Condo board for 15 years and was a 39-year member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Naperville; he enjoyed being with his family and loved to golf; and

WHEREAS, The passing of Paul B. "Rusty" Harris has been deeply felt by many, especially his wife, Mary (Salmon) Harris; his son, John "Jack" (wife Ann) Harris; his daughters, Nancy (husband Gary) Blotcky and Polly (husband Pat) Benton; his grandchildren, Kelly First, Chris, Andy, and Tim Grimes, Jay and Sarah Benton, and Mike, Molly, Kyle, and Tommy Harris; his great-grandchildren, Katy First and Adam and Amanda Grimes; and his brothers, James William (wife Carolee) Harris and Richard L. (wife Carol) Harris; he was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Pauline (Palmer) Harris; and by two brothers, Jack and Robert; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Paul B. "Rusty" Harris, and we extend our deepest sympathy to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to his family as an expression of our sincere condolences.
