SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois learned with regret of the death of Richard A. "Dick" Switzer of Kewanee on Sunday, March 13, 2005; and

WHEREAS, He was born in Kewanee on July 24, 1926, to Burns and Philomena (VanRamedonk) Switzer; he graduated from Wethersfield High School, where he was a track star; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Switzer valiantly served his country as a member of the U.S. Army; he was an infantryman and then in the 11th Airborne; he served in the occupation of Japan; and

WHEREAS, He married Alice Ouart on April 21, 1951, in Kewanee; he had worked as a pressman for the Star Courier and later as a custodian and bus driver for Wethersfield School; he enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading, collecting arrowheads, and playing cards; and

WHEREAS, The passing of Richard A. "Dick" Switzer has been deeply felt by many, especially his wife, Alice; his son, Robert (Becky) Switzer; his daughter, Mrs. Don (Sandra) Wirth; his grandchildren, Nicholas Switzer, Mrs. Craig (Valerie) Schneider, and Ryan Switzer; his great-grandson, Max Schneider; and his brother, Roger VanZandbergen; he was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Gilberta Wozniak; his twin brother, Robert, in infancy; and his granddaughter, Tara; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Richard A. "Dick" Switzer, and we extend our deepest sympathy to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to his family as an expression of our sincere condolences.
