| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 |
| Representatives recognize the courageous efforts of Jimmy |
| 4 |
| Gorman; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, He had just started his first real day on the job |
| 6 |
| as a Chicago firefighter when the LaSalle Bank fire call came |
| 7 |
| in on December 6, 2004; and
|
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, He was part of a team searching halls and |
| 9 |
| stairwells, going up and down stairs for 90 minutes; they were |
| 10 |
| wearing airmasks, and he was breathing so hard, he used up one |
| 11 |
| oxygen tank in six minutes; at some point, he inhaled smoke, |
| 12 |
| which he later learned swelled his windpipe; with an abnormal |
| 13 |
| pulse, a scratchy voice, and soot in his nose and mouth, he was |
| 14 |
| sent to the hospital; and
|
| 15 |
| WHEREAS, At least 37 people, including nearly two dozen |
| 16 |
| firefighters, were injured in the fire on the upper floors of |
| 17 |
| the LaSalle Bank headquarters; the stubborn blaze required more |
| 18 |
| than 300 firefighters; and
|
| 19 |
| WHEREAS, He had an unbelievable experience, watching real |
| 20 |
| pros in action; he plans to stay on the job, which he got after |
| 21 |
| waiting nine years; and
|
| 22 |
| WHEREAS, With streams of firefighters visiting him in the |
| 23 |
| hospital, he now knows what it means to be in the "fire |
| 24 |
| family"; therefore, be it
|

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |

| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |

| we recognize the bravery of Jimmy Gorman; and be it further
