HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives recognize the courageous efforts of Jimmy
4 Gorman; and
 
5     WHEREAS, He had just started his first real day on the job
6 as a Chicago firefighter when the LaSalle Bank fire call came
7 in on December 6, 2004; and
 
8     WHEREAS, He was part of a team searching halls and
9 stairwells, going up and down stairs for 90 minutes; they were
10 wearing airmasks, and he was breathing so hard, he used up one
11 oxygen tank in six minutes; at some point, he inhaled smoke,
12 which he later learned swelled his windpipe; with an abnormal
13 pulse, a scratchy voice, and soot in his nose and mouth, he was
14 sent to the hospital; and
 
15     WHEREAS, At least 37 people, including nearly two dozen
16 firefighters, were injured in the fire on the upper floors of
17 the LaSalle Bank headquarters; the stubborn blaze required more
18 than 300 firefighters; and
 
19     WHEREAS, He had an unbelievable experience, watching real
20 pros in action; he plans to stay on the job, which he got after
21 waiting nine years; and
 
22     WHEREAS, With streams of firefighters visiting him in the
23 hospital, he now knows what it means to be in the "fire
24 family"; therefore, be it
 
25     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
26 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
27 we recognize the bravery of Jimmy Gorman; and be it further
 
28     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
