SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Janice "Jan" Boess Geist, a longtime resident of Des Plaines, who passed away on January 7, 2023; and

WHEREAS, Jan Boess Geist was born to Murray and Phillipine Boess in Evanston on October 14, 1935; she graduated from Evanston High School and then married Walter Geist; and

WHEREAS, Jan Boess Geist worked as a graphic arts designer for many years at the Des Plaines Journal and later at the Contemporary Publishing Group in Chicago; and

WHEREAS, After retirement, Jan Boess Geist enjoyed volunteering at the Des Plaines Public Library, where she joined the Friends of the Library group, assisted with the annual used book sales, and helped others learn how to read in their ESL classes; and

WHEREAS, Jan Boess Geist was actively engaged in the First United Methodist Church in Des Plaines and was on many leadership committees over the years; and

WHEREAS, Jan Boess Geist was an avid music lover and had season tickets throughout her life for the Lyric Opera of Chicago; one of her fondest memories was meeting Luciano Pavarotti and getting his autograph; she was a world traveler, but one of her favorite places to spend time was in Colorado; she was a dedicated Chicago Cubs fan her entire life; and

WHEREAS, Jan Boess Geist was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Murray and Eugene; her sister, Barbara; and her former spouse, Walter; and

WHEREAS, Jan Boess Geist is survived by her children, Walter (Peggy), David (Debora), Richard (Bridgett), and Steven (Ray); her grandchildren, Jason, Natalie, Carrie, Zachary, and Sarah; her great-grandchildren, Evelyn, Lucy, and Naomi; and her dear friend, Joanne Maresso; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Janice "Jan" Boess Geist and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Jan Boess Geist as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
