SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Janice "Jan" Boess Geist, a longtime
4resident of Des Plaines, who passed away on January 7, 2023;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, Jan Boess Geist was born to Murray and Phillipine
7Boess in Evanston on October 14, 1935; she graduated from
8Evanston High School and then married Walter Geist; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Jan Boess Geist worked as a graphic arts designer
10for many years at the Des Plaines Journal and later at the
11Contemporary Publishing Group in Chicago; and
 
12    WHEREAS, After retirement, Jan Boess Geist enjoyed
13volunteering at the Des Plaines Public Library, where she
14joined the Friends of the Library group, assisted with the
15annual used book sales, and helped others learn how to read in
16their ESL classes; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Jan Boess Geist was actively engaged in the First
18United Methodist Church in Des Plaines and was on many
19leadership committees over the years; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Jan Boess Geist was an avid music lover and had

1season tickets throughout her life for the Lyric Opera of
2Chicago; one of her fondest memories was meeting Luciano
3Pavarotti and getting his autograph; she was a world traveler,
4but one of her favorite places to spend time was in Colorado;
5she was a dedicated Chicago Cubs fan her entire life; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Jan Boess Geist was preceded in death by her
7parents; her brothers, Murray and Eugene; her sister, Barbara;
8and her former spouse, Walter; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Jan Boess Geist is survived by her children,
10Walter (Peggy), David (Debora), Richard (Bridgett), and Steven
11(Ray); her grandchildren, Jason, Natalie, Carrie, Zachary, and
12Sarah; her great-grandchildren, Evelyn, Lucy, and Naomi; and
13her dear friend, Joanne Maresso; therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
15ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
16Janice "Jan" Boess Geist and extend our sincere condolences to
17her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
18further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of Jan Boess Geist as an expression of
21our deepest sympathy.
