HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Ellen Brown-Dixon of Chicago, who passed away on August 4, 2023; and

WHEREAS, Ellen Brown-Dixon was born in Canton, Mississippi to Harvey and Mattie Mondy on November 18, 1920; she married Earnest Dixon; she moved to Chicago and became a member of Mother of Gospel Truth MB Church; and

WHEREAS, Ellen Brown-Dixon worked at Zenith Electronics building televisions; she retired from Beverly Bank in 1983; she later became a nanny for the Sigman family and loved their son, David, as her own; and

WHEREAS, Ellen Brown-Dixon enjoyed reading the Bible, cooking, baking, entertaining family and friends, and dressing "to the Nines"; she supported her block, her church, and her community, helping those in need and volunteering in many capacities for programs and fundraisers whenever she saw a need; and

WHEREAS, Ellen Brown-Dixon was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Earnest; her son, J.D. Smith; and her six siblings; and

WHEREAS, Ellen Brown-Dixon is survived by her nieces, Julia Banks and Tamberla (Jerry) Duckett; her daughter, Anni Smith; her nephew, Willis Mondy; her great-great-nephew, Marquaris Mondy; her cousin, Dora Branson; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Ellen Brown-Dixon and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Ellen Brown-Dixon as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
