SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:

105 ILCS 5/34-18.85 new

Amends the Chicago School District Article of the School Code. Prohibits, until February 1, 2027, the Chicago Board of Education from closing any attendance center within the school district that has selective admission requirements that are approved by the Board. Prohibits, until February 1, 2027, the Board from changing the standards for admission to any attendance center within the school district that has selective admission requirements that are approved by the Board. Provides that, notwithstanding any other provision of the Code, the Board may not take any action, until February 1, 2027, that results in a decrease in either the total amount or percentage of funds allocated to an attendance center within the school district that has selective admission requirements that are approved by the Board. Effective immediately.

A BILL FOR

AN ACT concerning education.

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly:

Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Section 34-18.85 as follows:

(105 ILCS 5/34-18.85 new)

Sec. 34-18.85. Selective enrollment schools; moratorium on closures, changes to standards of admission, and decreases in funding.

(a) Until February 1, 2027, the Board may not close any attendance center within the school district that has selective admission requirements that are approved by the Board.

(b) Until February 1, 2027, the Board may not change the standards for admission to any attendance center within the school district that has selective admission requirements that are approved by the Board.

(c) Notwithstanding any other provision of this Code, the Board may not take any action, until February 1, 2027, that results in a decrease in either the total amount or percentage of funds allocated to an attendance center within the school district that has selective admission requirements that are approved by the Board.

Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon becoming law.
