SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
105 ILCS 5/34-18.85 new

    Amends the Chicago School District Article of the School Code. Prohibits, until February 1, 2027, the Chicago Board of Education from closing any attendance center within the school district that has selective admission requirements that are approved by the Board. Prohibits, until February 1, 2027, the Board from changing the standards for admission to any attendance center within the school district that has selective admission requirements that are approved by the Board. Provides that, notwithstanding any other provision of the Code, the Board may not take any action, until February 1, 2027, that results in a decrease in either the total amount or percentage of funds allocated to an attendance center within the school district that has selective admission requirements that are approved by the Board. Effective immediately.

1    AN ACT concerning education.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Section
534-18.85 as follows:
 
6    (105 ILCS 5/34-18.85 new)
7    Sec. 34-18.85. Selective enrollment schools; moratorium on
8closures, changes to standards of admission, and decreases in
9funding.
10    (a) Until February 1, 2027, the Board may not close any
11attendance center within the school district that has
12selective admission requirements that are approved by the
13Board.
14    (b) Until February 1, 2027, the Board may not change the
15standards for admission to any attendance center within the
16school district that has selective admission requirements that
17are approved by the Board.
18    (c) Notwithstanding any other provision of this Code, the
19Board may not take any action, until February 1, 2027, that
20results in a decrease in either the total amount or percentage
21of funds allocated to an attendance center within the school
22district that has selective admission requirements that are
23approved by the Board.
