HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Leah A. Walker, who passed away on August 25, 2022; and

WHEREAS, Leah Walker was born to Rudolph and Lois Armstrong in Chicago on February 22, 1942; she graduated from Hyde Park High School in 1960; she married Alfonza McKinnor on April 19, 1961; and

WHEREAS, Leah Walker worked as an operating room technician, but her true passion was her cooking and baking; she could make a meal out of anything and left her children with the world's greatest potato salad and meatball stew recipes; and

WHEREAS, Leah Walker also had a love for reading, which contributed to the uniqueness of her children's names; there was nothing she liked better than gathering with family and friends, as well as watching classic movies; and

WHEREAS, Leah Walker's caring heart and compassionate spirit were personified through her service as a caregiver; while serving in that capacity, she met John Walker, whom she married on October 10, 1990; and

WHEREAS, Leah Walker displayed courage and resilience throughout her life; she cared deeply about the equality and advancement of women's rights and will be especially remembered for her quick wit, upbeat spirit, and deep faith; she was adored and loved by all who knew her; and

WHEREAS, Leah Walker was preceded in death by her husband, John; her parents; her brother, Richard Armstrong Sr.; and her nephew, Richard Armstrong Jr.; and

WHEREAS, Leah Walker is survived by her children, Greshynka, Rommel (Latresha), Thrishka, Keisha, and Neitzche (Petrina); her bonus son, Brandon (Brandi); her grandchildren, Jonathan, Shenice, Jillian, Jason, Jibri, Kiara, Marcus, Jammie, and Nasir; her bonus grandchildren, Jazmen, Jayla, Brianna, and Bryce; nine great-grandchildren; her niece, Elizabeth Armstrong; and numerous cousins, relatives, and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Leah A. Walker and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Leah Walker as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
