HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Cercelia Catherine Jones, who passed away on July 22, 2022; and

WHEREAS, Cercelia Jones was born to Carlee Jones and Roosevelt Jones at the Cook County Hospital on June 16, 1952; she attended St. Athengia Church from preschool through eighth grade and joined a mentoring program at Christ the King in her early teen years; she graduated from Lucy Flowers High School; she earned her associate's degree from Mayfair College; and

WHEREAS, Cercelia Jones previously worked at U.S. Bank, where she was named the number one teller and head seller; she held a number of jobs, including at Iden Press, Jewel Osco, ComEd, and the First National Bank of Oak Park; and

WHEREAS, Cercelia Jones was named one of the West Side Women of Wisdom and Inspiration in 2018; and

WHEREAS, Cercelia Jones committed to her faith at a young age; she was baptized as an infant at St. Athengia Church and later joined a baptismal Catholic church; and

WHEREAS, Cercelia Jones enjoyed watching The Bachelorette and game shows; she loved the Backstreet Boys song "I Want It That Way", taking pictures, and living in the moment; and

WHEREAS, Cercelia Jones was preceded in death by her parents; her grandmother, Maddie Sharky; her brothers, Lionel Jones and Larry Jones; and her son, Rashawn Jones; and

WHEREAS, Cercelia Jones is survived by her sisters, Patricia Barlow, Cherie Pennington, and Debra Jones; her special niece and daughter, Natalie Jones; her nephew, Tammaris Jones; her granddaughters; her great-nieces, Destiny (Kay Kay), Nevaeh, Angel, Nalanni, and Debriyah; her grandsons and nephews, Jemmaris Jones, Rashaun Jones, Tammaris Jones, Tasser Jones, and Pharoah Jones; her best friend, Deborah Williams; her special brother, Herbert Mason; and a host of cousins, family, and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Cercelia Catherine Jones and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Cercelia Jones as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
