| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate Chevy Humphrey on being | 4 | | named president and chief executive officer of the Museum of | 5 | | Science and Industry in Chicago; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Chevy Humphrey is a long-time, successful leader | 7 | | in the museum field; she previously served as president and | 8 | | CEO of the Arizona Science Center (ASC) in Phoenix, Arizona | 9 | | for nearly 15 years; during her tenure at ASC, museum assets | 10 | | grew from $3 to $42 million, annual revenues grew by more than | 11 | | 200 percent, and the number of annual visitors to ASC, onsite | 12 | | and offsite, more than tripled; her leadership led to ASC | 13 | | acquiring two non-profits to maximize programming and ASC | 14 | | becoming a trusted partner to state education leaders and the | 15 | | science teaching community; prior to being named CEO in 2005, | 16 | | she served in multiple roles with the institution; earlier in | 17 | | her career, she gained experience in development with the | 18 | | Phoenix Symphony and two institutions of higher education; and
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Chevy Humphrey is recognized as a leader on | 20 | | national and international levels; she currently serves as | 21 | | chair of the Board of the American Alliance of Museums, the | 22 | | largest international association of museums in the world; she | 23 | | was selected by her peers as chair of the Board of the |

| 1 | | Association of Science and Technology Centers, the | 2 | | organization that serves more than 500 science centers in more | 3 | | than 50 countries; and
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Chevy Humphrey is well-known in the Arizona | 5 | | community and beyond for her leadership; she was named Mentor | 6 | | of the Year the first time the award was given and one of the | 7 | | Most Admired CEOs by Phoenix Business Journal; she was also | 8 | | named a Visionary Leader by the Women's National Basketball | 9 | | Association and BBVA Compass; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Chevy Humphrey is the first woman and Black | 11 | | American to lead the Museum of Science and Industry (MSI); she | 12 | | received a unanimous vote to become the next president and CEO | 13 | | of MSI from the Board of Trustees; she was chosen for her | 14 | | effective leadership skills, her track record, her commitment | 15 | | to science education, her international leadership within her | 16 | | field, and her deep desire to engage with Chicago's many | 17 | | diverse communities; and
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Chevy Humphrey stepped into her new position as | 19 | | president and CEO of the Museum of Science and Industry in | 20 | | January 2021; she succeeded David Mosena, who retired at the | 21 | | end of 2020 after 23 years leading MSI; therefore, be it
