HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Chevy Humphrey on being
4named president and chief executive officer of the Museum of
5Science and Industry in Chicago; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Chevy Humphrey is a long-time, successful leader
7in the museum field; she previously served as president and
8CEO of the Arizona Science Center (ASC) in Phoenix, Arizona
9for nearly 15 years; during her tenure at ASC, museum assets
10grew from $3 to $42 million, annual revenues grew by more than
11200 percent, and the number of annual visitors to ASC, onsite
12and offsite, more than tripled; her leadership led to ASC
13acquiring two non-profits to maximize programming and ASC
14becoming a trusted partner to state education leaders and the
15science teaching community; prior to being named CEO in 2005,
16she served in multiple roles with the institution; earlier in
17her career, she gained experience in development with the
18Phoenix Symphony and two institutions of higher education; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Chevy Humphrey is recognized as a leader on
20national and international levels; she currently serves as
21chair of the Board of the American Alliance of Museums, the
22largest international association of museums in the world; she
23was selected by her peers as chair of the Board of the

1Association of Science and Technology Centers, the
2organization that serves more than 500 science centers in more
3than 50 countries; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Chevy Humphrey is well-known in the Arizona
5community and beyond for her leadership; she was named Mentor
6of the Year the first time the award was given and one of the
7Most Admired CEOs by Phoenix Business Journal; she was also
8named a Visionary Leader by the Women's National Basketball
9Association and BBVA Compass; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Chevy Humphrey is the first woman and Black
11American to lead the Museum of Science and Industry (MSI); she
12received a unanimous vote to become the next president and CEO
13of MSI from the Board of Trustees; she was chosen for her
14effective leadership skills, her track record, her commitment
15to science education, her international leadership within her
16field, and her deep desire to engage with Chicago's many
17diverse communities; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Chevy Humphrey stepped into her new position as
19president and CEO of the Museum of Science and Industry in
20January 2021; she succeeded David Mosena, who retired at the
21end of 2020 after 23 years leading MSI; therefore, be it

1HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
2we congratulate Chevy Humphrey on being named president and
3CEO of the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago and
4welcome her to Illinois; and be it further
 
5    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6presented to Chevy Humphrey as an expression of our esteem and
7respect.
