SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Joseph Edward "Joe" Ziegler of Rock Island, who passed away on May 9, 2022; and

WHEREAS, Joe Ziegler was born to Edward and Rose (Engels) Ziegler in Rock Island on August 16, 1925; he graduated from Rock Island High School in 1944; he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II; he married Virginia May Long on June 26, 1948, and she preceded him in death on November 19, 2018; he was a lifelong resident of Rock Island; and

WHEREAS, Joe Ziegler worked as a security officer at the Rock Island Arsenal; following 27 years of service, he retired in 1986; prior to that, he served as an office manager for Sawyer Biscuit Co. for a time; and

WHEREAS, Joe Ziegler was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church; he was a talented woodworker and carver, and he enjoyed carving canes; he also enjoyed taking care of his home and yard; and

WHEREAS, Joe Ziegler was a man of dignity, honesty, integrity, dedication, loyalty, benevolence, and humor who possessed unconditional love for his family; he brought smiles and taught lessons to many; he worked to make the world a better place every day for nearly a century; and

WHEREAS, Joe Ziegler was preceded in death by his wife; his grandson, Kyle; his parents; and his siblings, Edward, Anna, Rose Margaret, Pearl, Amelia, Catherine, and Lillian; and

WHEREAS, Joe Ziegler is survived by his children, Gail (Richard) Parsons, Timothy (Paula Zimmerman) Ziegler, Larry Ziegler, Constance (Paul) Vaughn, and Michael (Laurie Danielson) Ziegler; 16 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews and their families; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Joseph Edward "Joe" Ziegler and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Joe Ziegler as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
