SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Roland "Douglas" "Doug" Hovenden, who passed away on July 9, 2019; and

WHEREAS, Doug Hovenden was born in Shenandoah, Iowa to Roland Cavour and Berniece Margaret VanWyngarden Hovenden; he attended Shenandoah schools, Southwest Missouri State University, and Iowa State University, where he graduated in 1962; and

WHEREAS, Doug Hovenden began his teaching career as a vocational instructor in Graettinger, Iowa and then taught in Grinnell, Iowa; in 1966, he joined DeKalb Genetics as a district manager in 1966 and eventually relocated to Bloomington; and

WHEREAS, Doug Hovenden was compassionate and enjoyed helping others; he was a good husband, father, grandfather, and friend; and

WHEREAS, Doug Hovenden was preceded in death by his parents; and

WHEREAS, Doug Hovenden is survived by his wife of 56 years, Kathie Lou Rodgers Hovenden; his children, Kayla Karee (Douglas) Hill, Todd Douglas (Claudia) Hovenden, and Jodi Janee (Steven) Sackel; his grandchildren, Drake Hill, Katherine Hill, Connor Hill, Taylor Hill, Max Hovenden, Gabriella Hovenden, Cole Sackel, Cooper Sackel, and Olivia Sackel; his brothers, William Edwin Hovenden and Robert Alan Hovenden; and his sister, Donna Karee Henshaw; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Roland "Douglas" "Doug" Hovenden and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Doug Hovenden as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
