SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of David H. Nixon of Peoria, who passed away on August 5, 2018; and

WHEREAS, An independent insurance agent for 44 years, David Nixon continuously served on the Executive Committee of the Illinois Professional Insurance Agents, including as president from 1985 until 1986; he was appointed to the National Board of Professional Insurance Agents in 1987; in 1992, he chaired the Consolidation Committee for the Professional Insurance Agents and the Independent Insurance Agents of Illinois, which formed the Professional Independent Insurance Agents of Illinois; in 1993, he received the C.M. Cartwright Award for his leadership during the consolidation; in 2012, he was recognized by the Society of Certified Insurance Counselors for his over 35 years of continuing education; and

WHEREAS, David Nixon was an exemplary member of the community and was actively involved in many organizations, including the Southwest Kiwanis, the American Heart Association, the Boy Scouts of America, the Kickapoo Council of Girl Scouts, and the Bradley University Braves Club; he was also a committed volunteer and supporter of youth swimming; and

WHEREAS, David Nixon was a devout Presbyterian and chaired the consolidation committee for Arcadia and First Presbyterian Church, which formed United Presbyterian Church in 2003; he was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Peoria, where he served as an elder, a deacon, and most recently as church treasurer; and

WHEREAS, David Nixon's passing is a severe loss not only to the members of his family but also to his community and the State he served so well; and

WHEREAS, David Nixon is survived by his loving wife, Kathy; his daughter, Megan Nixon Swan; his son, Matt; his grandson, Caleb Swan; and his other relatives and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of David H. Nixon and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of David Nixon as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
