 1                    AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 3114

 2        AMENDMENT NO.     .  Amend House Bill  3114  on  page  1,
 3    line  5,  by replacing "Section 4-6002" with "Sections 4-6002
 4    and 4-8002"; and

 5    on page 2,  immediately  below  line  31,  by  inserting  the
 6    following:

 7        "(55 ILCS 5/4-8002) (from Ch. 34, par. 4-8002)
 8        Sec.  4-8002.  Additional  compensation  of  sheriff  and
 9    recorder for jail operation.
10        (a)  In addition to any salary otherwise provided by law,
11    beginning  December  1,  1998, the sheriff of Cook County for
12    his or her additional duties imposed  by  other  statutes  or
13    laws  shall receive an annual stipend to be paid by the State
14    in the amount of $6,500.  The county board shall  not  reduce
15    or  otherwise  impair  the  compensation  payable from county
16    funds to the sheriff if the reduction or  impairment  is  the
17    result  of the sheriff receiving a stipend payable from State
18    funds.
19        (b)  In addition to any salary otherwise provided by law,
20    beginning December 1, 2000, the recorder  of  deeds  of  Cook
21    County  for his or her additional duties imposed by law shall
22    receive an annual stipend to be  paid  by  the  State  in  an

 1    amount  equal  to  the stipend paid to each recorder in other
 2    counties under subsection (d) of Section 4-6001 of this Code.
 3    The county board may  not  reduce  or  otherwise  impair  the
 4    compensation  payable  from  county  funds to the recorder of
 5    deeds if the reduction or impairment is  the  result  of  the
 6    recorder  of  deeds  receiving  a  stipend payable from State
 7    funds.
