HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to recognize Dr. Sheila Quirk-Bailey on
4her distinguished career as president of Illinois Central
5College (ICC); and
 
6    WHEREAS, Dr. Quirk-Bailey joined ICC as its fifth
7president in July 2016, bringing more than 26 years of
8community college experience to her role, having previously
9served in various roles for Harper College from 1990 to 2016;
10and
 
11    WHEREAS, Dr. Quirk-Bailey has led ICC with the premise
12that equity drives a vibrant community, focusing on how to
13reduce success gaps by better preparing students with valuable
14skills to create prosperity, not only for the individual but
15for the community as a whole; and
 
16    WHEREAS, During Dr. Quirk-Bailey's tenure, ICC has had
17several notable achievements, including securing a $15,000,000
18grant from the Economic Development Administration to create
19the IT Workforce Accelerator, winning the national Charles
20Kennedy Equity Award from the Association of Community College
21Trustees (ACCT), leading the statewide Workforce Equity
22Initiative (WEI), opening the Workforce Sustainability Center

1to provide training for some of the most in-demand programs in
2the area, and receiving a $25,000 grant from the Lumina Fund
3for Racial Justice and Equity to train over 100 group
4facilitators to promote progress on race, diversity, and
5equity; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Dr. Quirk-Bailey is passionate about engaging the
7community through working with local high schools and
8businesses to better align ICC programs and services while
9achieving high levels of positive outcomes for students, their
10families, the workforce, and the region; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
12HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
13we recognize Dr. Sheila Quirk-Bailey on her distinguished
14career as president of Illinois Central College; and be it
15further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to Dr. Quirk-Bailey as a symbol of our respect and
18esteem.
