| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of George W. "Bud" Benner of Rock Island, | 4 | | who passed away on November 27, 2016; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, George Benner was born in Canton on October 26, | 6 | | 1918; he graduated from Plainfield High School in 1936; he | 7 | | served in the United States Marines and married Nelda Chandler | 8 | | on November 30, 1940; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, George Benner opened his own garage in Rock | 10 | | Island; he also worked as a truck driver, retiring from Roadway | 11 | | Trucking; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, George Benner was a talented stock car racer; he | 13 | | was one of the original drivers on the area oval track; he | 14 | | received the Best Driver and Most Popular Driver trophy many of | 15 | | those years; he and his wife wintered in Florida for 26 years; | 16 | | and
| 17 | | WHEREAS, George Benner was an avid golfer and fisherman; at | 18 | | age 95, he went skydiving with his grandson, Kirk Smith; he was | 19 | | a lifelong member of the American Legion; he enjoyed taking the | 20 | | World War II Honor Flight in 2014 with his devoted friend, Bill | 21 | | Esser; and |

| 1 | | WHEREAS, George Benner was preceded in death by his parents | 2 | | and his wife of 70 years, Nelda; and
| 3 | | WHEREAS, George Benner is survived by his daughters, Nelda | 4 | | Smith, Carolyne Rogers, and Georgia Benner-Hoggatt; 11 | 5 | | grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and six | 6 | | great-great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
| 7 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | 8 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 9 | | George W. "Bub" Benner, and extend our sincere condolences to | 10 | | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 11 | | further
