| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Major | 4 | | John Francis Lynn, United States Marine Corps, retired, of | 5 | | Marion, who passed away on October 10, 2010; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, He was born March 8, 1952, in Chicago, the son of | 7 | | William Francis and Ruth Mary (Meier) Lynn; he was united in | 8 | | marriage to Patty Durall on May 29, 1976, in Marion, and | 9 | | together they shared the last 34 years; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, He served in the United States Marine Corps for 3 | 11 | | years as an enlisted member, and 20 years as an officer, | 12 | | retiring as a major; he served as a tank officer in California | 13 | | and North Carolina and was a foreign area officer in Central | 14 | | and South America; he was a graduate of Southern Illinois | 15 | | University School of Law in Carbondale and, until his passing, | 16 | | served as assistant dean for Administration of the Southern | 17 | | Illinois University School of Law; and
| 18 | | WHEREAS, He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in | 19 | | Marion; he was a member of the Illinois State Bar Association | 20 | | and Pro Bono Counsel for Fisher House in Chicago; he was | 21 | | director of the Veterans' Legal Assistance Program at the | 22 | | Southern Illinois University School of Law and spent |

| 1 | | considerable time working on behalf of local veterans; he | 2 | | worked with Big Brothers of Georgia, and he was a supporter of | 3 | | the Special Olympics; in his spare time, he enjoyed the art of | 4 | | stained glass and molding lead miniatures; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, John Lynn is survived by his wife, Patty Lynn; his | 7 | | 2 daughters and one son-in-law, Rachel Lynn and Andrew Dunston, | 8 | | and Kathryn Lisbeth Lynn; his grandson, William Grady Dunston; | 9 | | his sister, Patricia Lynn and husband, Michael Webb; his 2 | 10 | | brothers and sisters-in-law, Michael and Honey Lynn and David | 11 | | and Elaine Lynn; his mother-in-law, Colleen Norman; his | 12 | | father-in-law, Maurice Durall; several nieces and nephews; and | 13 | | other extended family and many friends; therefore, be it
| 14 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 15 | | NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | 16 | | mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of John | 17 | | Lynn; and be it further
| 18 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 19 | | presented to the family of John Lynn as a symbol of our sincere | 20 | | sympathy.
