SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Starved Rock State Park holds significant
3historical and cultural importance to the residents of the
4State of Illinois; and
 
5    WHEREAS, The name Starved Rock has become synonymous with
6the natural beauty and heritage of our State for over 100
7years, attracting visitors from across the nation and
8contributing to the local economy; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Recent discussions regarding the potential
10renaming of Starved Rock State Park have raised concerns among
11residents and local businesses regarding the impact such a
12change could have on local communities' identities and the
13tourism industry; and
 
14    WHEREAS, It is crucial for the General Assembly to
15reaffirm its support for maintaining the name Starved Rock
16State Park and emphasize its significance to the local
17community's brand identity and cultural heritage; therefore,
18be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
20ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we express our
21unwavering support for the name Starved Rock State Park, and

1we recognize its importance to the local community and its
2brand identity; and be it further
 
3    RESOLVED, That we acknowledge the concerns raised by
4residents and local businesses regarding the potential
5renaming of Starved Rock State Park, and we pledge to advocate
6for the preservation of the park's historic name; and be it
7further
 
8    RESOLVED, That we encourage open dialogue and
9collaboration with relevant stakeholders, including Tribal
10Nations and Indigenous communities, to address concerns and
11explore ways to honor the park's heritage while respecting
12diverse perspectives; and be it further
 
13    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
14delivered to the Illinois Department of Natural Resources and
15Governor JB Pritzker.
