SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Michael L. "Mike" McGaughy of Moline,
4who passed away on November 5, 2023; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Mike McGaughy was born to Lyal and Irene (Newman)
6McGaughy in Monmouth on April 21, 1949; he graduated from
7Winola High School, where he participated in track and field,
8baseball, and basketball and was crowned prom king his senior
9year; he graduated with a Bachelor of Science from Sterling
10College; he served in the U.S. Army, where he was initially
11stationed in Germany before going to Vietnam; he was honored
12with the National Defense Service Medal and the Marksman M16
13award; he married Sandra McGaughy in Viola; and
 
14    WHEREAS, After his military service, Mike McGaughy taught
15third grade at Winola Elementary School; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Mike McGaughy will be remembered for his
17kindness, generosity, and sense of humor; he enjoyed working
18in the yard, cooking on the grill, spending time outdoors, and
19keeping up with the weather; he was an avid sports fan who
20enjoyed watching football, basketball, baseball, and golf; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Mike McGaughy was preceded in death by his

1parents and his wife; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Mike McGaughy is survived by his brother, John
3McGaughy, and his son, Eric McGaughy; therefore, be it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
5ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
6Michael L. "Mike" McGaughy and extend our sincere condolences
7to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be
8it further
 
9    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10presented to the family of Mike McGaughy as an expression of
11our deepest sympathy.
