SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Lester W. Umland of Moline, who passed away on October 26, 2019; and

WHEREAS, Lester Umland was born in Moline to Walter and Elizabeth (Gamtau) Umland on March 4, 1933; he graduated from Moline High School and the DeVry Technical Institute; he served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955 and was stationed in Germany; he married Patricia Schroeder in Davenport, Iowa on June 2, 1956; and

WHEREAS, Lester Umland was employed by the McLaughlin Body Company for 37 years, retiring in 1990; and

WHEREAS, Lester Umland and his wife loved traveling and enjoyed several cruises; after the war, he took his wife on a memorable trip back to Germany; he enjoyed building and flying radio-controlled airplanes and loved spending time with his family and his dogs; and

WHEREAS, Lester Umland was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Jeanette; and his son, Steven Tyson; and

WHEREAS, Lester Umland is survived by his wife, Patricia, and his daughters, Cheryl (Jerry) Burns and Teresa (Charles) Wentz; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Lester W. Umland and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Lester Umland as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
