SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of James A. Bernaix of Granite City, who passed away on August 17, 2019; and

WHEREAS, James Bernaix was born in Granite City to James E. and Irma (Hodshire) Bernaix on February 11, 1932; he served in the United States Army with the 3rd Army Division during the Korean Conflict; he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal; he married Patricia A. Ellenwood at the Dewey Avenue Methodist Church in Granite City on August 20, 1952; and

WHEREAS, James Bernaix retired as a letter carrier from the United States Postal Service in 1987, after 33 years of service; and

WHEREAS, James Bernaix was a faithful member of the Nameoki United Methodist Church in Granite City, where he enjoyed helping with the barbeques; he was a knowledgeable backyard mechanic, who enjoyed working on cars and could fix almost anything; he enjoyed playing board games, including Sequence and Mexican Train, card games, and boating with family and friends at the Lake of the Ozarks; he will be remembered as a people person, always happy and wearing a big smile; and

WHEREAS, James Bernaix was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Dan Bernaix; his sister, Doris Treaster; and three of his brothers, Don, Leonard, and Carl Bernaix; and

WHEREAS, James Bernaix is survived by his wife, Patricia; his sons, Terry (Laura) Bernaix, Dennis (Susan) Bernaix, and Timothy (Cara) Bernaix; his daughter-in-law, Marilyn Bernaix; his grandchildren, Justin Bernaix, Kristin Hickam, Tiffany Dunivan, Melissa Stevens, Rusty Bernaix, Kelly Williams, Lindsey Kalas, Nicole Luttrell, Michelle Bernaix, and Ben Bernaix; his great-grandchildren, Caden, Kinsley, Ella, Keller, Lyla, Dylan, Ethan, Carlton, Dax, Luke, Lane, Maggie, and Ian; his brother, Walter (Nancy) Bernaix; many nieces and nephews, and many other extended family members and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of James A. Bernaix and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of James Bernaix as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
