SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of James A. Bernaix of Granite City, who
4passed away on August 17, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, James Bernaix was born in Granite City to James E.
6and Irma (Hodshire) Bernaix on February 11, 1932; he served in
7the United States Army with the 3rd Army Division during the
8Korean Conflict; he was awarded the National Defense Service
9Medal and the Good Conduct Medal; he married Patricia A.
10Ellenwood at the Dewey Avenue Methodist Church in Granite City
11on August 20, 1952; and
 
12    WHEREAS, James Bernaix retired as a letter carrier from the
13United States Postal Service in 1987, after 33 years of
14service; and
 
15    WHEREAS, James Bernaix was a faithful member of the Nameoki
16United Methodist Church in Granite City, where he enjoyed
17helping with the barbeques; he was a knowledgeable backyard
18mechanic, who enjoyed working on cars and could fix almost
19anything; he enjoyed playing board games, including Sequence
20and Mexican Train, card games, and boating with family and
21friends at the Lake of the Ozarks; he will be remembered as a
22people person, always happy and wearing a big smile; and

1    WHEREAS, James Bernaix was preceded in death by his
2parents; his son, Dan Bernaix; his sister, Doris Treaster; and
3three of his brothers, Don, Leonard, and Carl Bernaix; and
 
4    WHEREAS, James Bernaix is survived by his wife, Patricia;
5his sons, Terry (Laura) Bernaix, Dennis (Susan) Bernaix, and
6Timothy (Cara) Bernaix; his daughter-in-law, Marilyn Bernaix;
7his grandchildren, Justin Bernaix, Kristin Hickam, Tiffany
8Dunivan, Melissa Stevens, Rusty Bernaix, Kelly Williams,
9Lindsey Kalas, Nicole Luttrell, Michelle Bernaix, and Ben
10Bernaix; his great-grandchildren, Caden, Kinsley, Ella,
11Keller, Lyla, Dylan, Ethan, Carlton, Dax, Luke, Lane, Maggie,
12and Ian; his brother, Walter (Nancy) Bernaix; many nieces and
13nephews, and many other extended family members and friends;
14therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
17James A. Bernaix and extend our sincere condolences to his
18family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
19further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to the family of James Bernaix as an expression of
22our deepest sympathy.
