SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Sgt. Jeremy C. Sherman of Watseka, who passed away on November 12, 2020; and

WHEREAS, Sgt. Sherman, the son of Gwendolyn and Scott Childress, was born in Covington, Tennessee on January 6, 1997; he graduated from Watseka Community High School in 2015; and

WHEREAS, Sgt. Sherman joined the United States Army in 2015; he served in South Korea, Afghanistan, and Egypt; he was a Black Hawk crew chief with Aviation Company, Task Force Sinai, part of a multinational peacekeeping mission, and was attending college for aeronautics in hopes of one day becoming a Black Hawk pilot; his decorations included the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Award, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the National Defense Service Ribbon, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Korea Defense Service Medal, the Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, the Army Service Ribbon, and the Overseas Service Ribbon; and

WHEREAS, Sgt. Sherman enjoyed spending time with his family and summers at Yogi Bear Camp Grounds; he loved ice cream and dogs, especially Chewy, his pet Chihuahua; he was an avid fan of the Chicago Bears; he was a loyal friend and cherished his family; and

WHEREAS, Sgt. Sherman was preceded in death by his grandmother, Carol Sherman; and

WHEREAS, Sgt. Sherman is survived by his wife, Kathleen Sherman; his parents; his brother, Nathan Childress; and his sister, Shea Childress; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Sgt. Jeremy C. Sherman and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Sgt. Sherman as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
