SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Louis "Lou" Shaver Myers of Springfield, who passed away on September 1, 2020; and

WHEREAS, Lou Myers was born to Alan J. and Pauline Shaver Myers in Springfield on September 15, 1931; he graduated from Springfield High School and then as Cum Laude from the University of Miami in 1953; from 1953 to 1956, he was in active duty with the U.S. Navy, where he achieved the rank of lieutenant; he married Dorothy "June" Dunseth on July 6, 1958; he remained in the Navy Reserve until 1975; and

WHEREAS, Lou Myers worked for Macy's in New York and then for Myers Brothers, where he retired as Executive Vice President in 1979; he was then a commercial real estate broker until his retirement in 1999; and

WHEREAS, Lou Myers was a 60 year member of the First United Methodist Church, where he served on the board; he was elected to the school board for District 186, was a board member of SCADA, DPI, and the Fancy Creek Cemetery Association, and was a member of the Sangamo Club and the Springfield Art Association; and

WHEREAS, Lou Myers was a big supporter of youth sports; he found great joy in sharing sweet corn and other bounty from the farm; he and his wife loved spending winters in Mexico and summers in the caboose on the farm; the farm was never far from his heart or soul; and

WHEREAS, Lou Myers was preceded in death by his parents and his wife; and

WHEREAS, Lou Myers is survived by his children, Julie Myers (Cass) Casper, Stephen Dunseth (Terri Blake) Myers, and Scott Dunseth (Erica) Myers; his five grandchildren, Myers (Christine) Dill, Jake M., Emiko M., Blake E., and John W.S. Myers; his great-grandchild, Lucia Dill; his great-grandson due in February of 2021; and his sister, Suzanne Giesze; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Louis "Lou" Shaver Myers and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Lou Myers as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
