SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Glen Albert Brandt of Pleasant Plains,
4who passed away on June 7, 2020; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Glen Brandt was born to Albert and Margaret Bomke
6Brandt in Farmingdale on March 19, 1926; he was confirmed into
7the Lutheran Church at Immanuel Lutheran Church on August 13,
81939; he graduated from Pleasant Plains High School in 1944 and
9briefly attended Springfield Junior College before enlisting
10in the U.S. Merchant Marines; he served for three years during
11WWII; he returned home to farm with his father but was drafted
12into the U.S. Army in 1950 to serve in Korea; after two years
13with the 27th Regiment of the 25th Division, he was honorably
14discharged; he married Peggy Eileen Carter on September 5,
151960; and
 
16    WHEREAS, In 1953, Glen Brandt and his sister, Evelyn,
17founded the business that would grow to become Brandt, Inc.; he
18remained active in the agriculture business that bears his name
19until his passing, serving as a vocal consultant to the board
20of directors; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Glen Brandt previously served as the president of
22what is now known as the Ag Retailers Association; he was

1involved in the community as a member of the Pleasant Plains
2American Legion, a patron of the Memorial Medical Center
3Foundation, and as a member of the development committee for
4Lincoln Land Community College; he was a member of Zion
5Lutheran Church in Pleasant Plains; and
 
6    WHEREAS, The Ag Retailers Association named Brandt, Inc.
7the Ag Retailer of the Year in 2000 and also presented Glen
8Brandt its prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007;
9Glen, along with Evelyn, were named the Illinois State Ag
10Ambassadors in 2015; and
 
11    WHEREAS, in his youth, Glen Brandt was a founding member of
12the band Boogie Woogie Brandt and the Barrelhouse Boys; more
13recently, he enjoyed socializing, talking business over
14cocktails, smoking a stogie, and taking walks on Bonita Beach;
15he was also a licensed pilot; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Glen Brandt was preceded in death by his parents
17and his wife; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Glen Brandt is survived by his sisters, Evelyn
19Brandt Thomas and Shirley Brandt Hagen; his son, Rick (Kristie)
20Brandt; his daughter, Terri (Tom) Gustafson; his four beloved
21grandchildren, Sierra-Shae Brandt and Alex, Will, and Joe
22Gustafson; his niece; his nephew; his many cousins; and his

1special care giver, Janet Zeigler; therefore, be it
 
2    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
3ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
4Glen Albert Brandt and extend our sincere condolences to his
5family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
6further
 
7    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
8presented to the family of Glen Brandt as an expression of our
9deepest sympathy.
