SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Harvey LaVerne Benedict of Waukegan, who passed away on February 24, 2020; and

WHEREAS, Harvey Benedict was born in Tampa, Florida to LaVerne Shephard and Elsie Louise Benedict (Zecetschke) on December 29, 1925; he graduated from Waukegan Township High School in January of 1944 and served in the U.S. Marines during World War II; he was honorably discharged in 1945; he married Nola Gene Nielsen on October 24, 1959, and they settled in Waukegan in 1961; and

WHEREAS, Harvey Benedict worked for many years at the Commonwealth Edison nuclear power plant in Zion; and

WHEREAS, Harvey Benedict was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and the American Legion; he enjoyed working around the house, traveling, camping with his family, and learning the family history and genealogy; he also enjoyed an Italian beef sandwich from Portillo's and a nice hot cup of coffee; and

WHEREAS, Harvey Benedict was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Nancy Pataky; his brother-in-law, Ralph Pataky; and his long-time friend and brother-in-law, Victor Geib; and

WHEREAS, Harvey Benedict is survived by his wife, Nola Gene Benedict; his children, Todd (Amy) Benedict, Lee (Jackie) Benedict, and Lynnette (Rick) Adkins; his grandchildren, Evan (Morgan) Sims, Coulson (Taitum) Sims, Andrew Benedict, and Jacob Benedict; his sister, Marion Geib; and many nephews and nieces and their children; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Harvey LaVerne Benedict and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Harvey Benedict as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
